excellent work on conditioning and fundamentals

Jody Fisher is a good teacher. Patient, methodical, not assuming you already know things, he walks you through basics, from how to sit to how to hold each hand and finger and how to pick, and he provides and demonstrates exercises which have been very good practice for me in fundamental technique.

Like many older guys taking up guitar again, and having learned in a pretty casual manner, I am weak on fundamentals and have bad habits which impede my progress and even caused tendonitous in my left elbow - very painful, I don't recommend it! Jody is the man, I feel better and play better. Thanks, Jody!
Great Guitarists Exercise Book

If you only work on the 1st 4 exercises in this book, your strength and skill will improve noticeably.

The rest of this book is just gravy. Jody Fisher has a lot of great books, but this one is my favorite.

The end.
Excellent Technique Builder

Reviewer: thedukewestern,
I am a professional guitar teacher and performer. The four warmups in here are excellent, and the "workouts" themselves are also excellent. This book helped me break alot of new ground in my technique, and through the excercises develop, as jodi refers to it, a more balanced set of hands. I started with this book four years ago and revisit it often, and use the warmups religiously before gigs.

Being originally a drummer by education, a guitarist would compare the chromatic excercises in this book to "rudiments", as they often force you to perform unusual position shifts and picking/ finger combinations. The "Chordiac" workouts, (chord drills) are the 2nd part of each workout and are also excellent, each one building upon the last and opening up new harmonic ground on the instrument. This book has and still helps me eliminate technical and musical learning gaps in my playing.
THIS BOOK IS AWSOME, MASTERPICES, AND HARD WORK

Very few of the examples in the book are demonstrated. The DVD focuses more on developing correct picking technique and only demonstrates several of the 50 or so exercises. However this is still a good book as is Jazz Chops by Buck Brown.
I would say that Jody concentrates much more on chords than single lines in this workout book, as the single lines are mindless permutations for beginners while the chords are at an intermediate level. Strange mix of ideas here. Maybe Im biased because Im considered a lead guitar player though I believe that is a polite way of saying my rhythm is weak.
